G1 practice test — FAQ

Unofficial practice test. Not affiliated with the Government of Ontario, the Ministry of Transportation, DriveTest or ServiceOntario. This is not the official exam.

Is this the official G1 test?

No. This is an unofficial practice test only. It is not the official exam, and it is not run by the Ontario government, the Ministry of Transportation, DriveTest or ServiceOntario.

What does the mock test cover?

Road signs, signals and markings, and rules of the road, based on topics in the Official MTO Driver's Handbook. The mock test here uses 40 questions: 20 signs + 20 rules, with results by section.

What score do I need to pass the mock test here?

The mock test on this site shows a target of 16/20 per section. This is presented as a target format to be confirmed against the official source. Check the current official format and pass mark on ontario.ca / DriveTest before relying on it.

Are the questions the real exam questions?

No. Questions on this site are original practice questions written for study. They are not official exam questions, and passing a practice test does not guarantee passing the official test.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and no account is needed. You can start right away.

Where should I check the official rules?

In the Official MTO Driver's Handbook on ontario.ca, and in the Highway Traffic Act for the law itself. The handbook itself notes that it is only a guide.

What is G1?

G1 is Ontario's learner licence, the first level of graduated licensing. Normally you must be at least 16, pass a vision test and pass a written knowledge test. G1 drivers drive supervised, with zero blood alcohol and other restrictions. Check the handbook for the current list.
